Rockford German Students have many opportunities to involve themselves in German-speaking culture. Our students annually participate in several types of exchange programs that range from 2 weeks to 1 year. Rockford has two exclusive exchange programs and one tour program.
3-Week Homestay Exchange
The three-week exchange trip is coordinated through GAPP with Rockford's partner school (The Viktoria-Luise Gymnasium) in Hameln, Germany. Students experience German life first-hand in Hameln, Germany. They discover the exciting benefits of learning German as their second language through interaction and relationships with natives in their home setting by visiting school, living in a German family, taking part in excursions, and visting Berlin(Germany's capital and hot spot). 2-Week Bi-Annual Europe Tour
This is a bi-annual trip to German-, French-, and Spanish-speaking countries. Students observe European culture from the vantage point of a tourist. They experience authentic food and discover the "travel channel" side of the Europe. The trip is planned through an educational tour organization.
Academic Year Abroad
Rockford High School partners with the local branch of Rotary Club International to offer students a once-in-a-lifetime study abroad opportunity. We send students to Wolfsburg, Germany. While there, our students are marinated in German life. They grow, change and return home as global students.
